Sigh had to unfollow yet another Internet-person I’ve looked up to because they got completely weird about AI and it’s suddenly the only thing they can talk about.
It’s basically a cult. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@thomasfuchs
My coworker who drank the koolaid on AI now appears to be looking queasy with it, as if it's coming back up soon (to extend the metaphor). Hoping that happens sooner rather than later so I don't have to keep having arguments about how (he thought) all research can be done by questioning chatGPT... At the current stage, he's still using it but he's angry at it all the time, so with any luck he'll realise...
Anyway, point of this anecdote is that the cult isn't inescapable.
@thomasfuchs - it’s the new “norm”, Thomas /: I remember Alvin’s book: The Third Wave.
In that book, in 1980!, Toffler anticipates the transition to a predominantly information-based society driven by computers and digital networks, featuring “prosumers”and information overload, in which algorithms process data at massive scale, disrupting industries and generating “overtruth” through misleading or false content. Yep .. and here we are
