Still, in my ongoing efforts to be less self-conscious about this kind of thing, have a bio where I try to toot my own trumpet an accurate amount.
Michael is an experienced software developer, architect, and trainer. He has provided training in IT related skills for over 15 years since he first became responsible for internal training, technical onboarding, and professional development working at 15below ltd. Between then and now he has mentored children learning Python and Scratch for the first time with home educators and in after school programs, taught adults looking to transition into software development from other careers with CodeInstitute, and provided in depth expert training for established software professionals learning specialist technologies or new programming languages through both commercial courses and as an internal consultant. In 2011 his son was discovered to have a sensory processing disorder, and then a few years later dysgraphia and to be profoundly gifted. Years of investigation of what that meant, and training with Potential Plus UK and Istituto di Ortofonologia, allowed Michael and his wife to effectively home educate his son for four years when the school system in the UK became inappropriate and then support him through the final years of secondary school in Italy. This newfound knowledge also led to Michael’s own diagnosis with adult ADHD in 2022 and began his work to educate people within the IT industry about certain aspects of neurodiversity, including giving talks at international conferences on the subject.
Through all of this he has also continued to develop his own skills by writing code that has been deployed and used in multiple commercial products and open source projects. Before moving to Italy and setting up Mavnn di Michael Joshua Newton, he co-owned and was a director of @mavnn Ltd in the UK.
