Putin has already stated he will attack Baltic states before 2030. Cyberattacks from USA and Russia are now ongoing.
They are working together and trump has, according to a Putin speech before the DUMA, removed sanctions for sensitive supplies from us companies.
Europe must move fast.
In 2026, the trend in talk about K-shaped economic growth will continue to expand;
K-shaped growth is the coincidence of economic growth for the rich (who hold assets & wealth, as well as high incomes) - the upper arm of the K - with the decline economic prospects & reality for the poorer elements of society - the lower are of the K.
As Keynes would be shouting, of course, its what's going on in the lower arm of the K that is crucial for capitalism's future existence!
got a large pigfolk raid, but they managed to spawn themselves on a corner of the map blocked by rocks to the east and a lake to the north. they spent five minutes firing their guns at a sheer rock face, ran out of ammo, then threw a satchel charge and blew themselves up. these people are not the smartest.
@gsuberland ran out of ammo? 🤨
Woot is currently selling 64 and 32 megabyte RAM sticks as a joke 😭

Here's @GeofCox making a really important argument about the prevalence of the Far Right... its not a mass movement, its a very shouty minority who everyone things number more than they do...
It occurs to me that a good predictor of whether someone will embrace #Zettelkasten¹ would be if they like city-building games (SimCity, The Wandering Village²).

@marick that sounds reasonable, and I love to see a study funded to investigate the empirical correlation :)

@leanderlindahl Leander! Thank you for this fantastic initiative 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 and sorry if I haven’t followed up / replied to messages but I’ve been mostly offline with family. LMK how I can help.
Like if you create a brand new message with instructions I’d be happy to boost it (although most Fedi people are offline on weekends). Maybe Monday morning?
the ram in my gaming PC is worth ten times how much I paid for it a few months ago
RIP CIO IT budgets, just as a spoiler - they'll burn through it in the next few months.
Also RIP their blood pressure when they get their Azure bill and E5 renewal quote.
@GossiTheDog A RAM futures market?
Of course in my stumble out of my hotel I forgot my dect phone. Will have to go back for it at lunchtime. #39c3
You can also configure Ghostty to activate Vim mode via your command palette via custom command palette entries too (supported since Ghostty 1.2). Another nice example of functionality composition.
@mitchellh I have version 1.2.3-1.fc43 and there is no such action.
For years, the NHS has been training too few medics & nurses but this has been covered by utilising trained staff from overseas (some would argue thereby damaging health services in poorer countries by luring away their trained staff)...
but now migrant medical staff are beginning to shy away from coming to Britain due to the general anti-migrant rhetoric & (new/revised) immigration polices.
This leaves the NHS with a worsening staffing problem!

@ChrisMayLA6 Rachel Reeves should know that she will not get the growth she wants without rejoining the EU or allowing immigration. They've painted themselves into a corner. And, as you point out, many of our essential public services rely on immigration as well, so better or cheaper public services will also be out of reach.
Indeed; my copy of Eichmann in Jerusalem was also always near to hand in my university office
I read an interesting research finding yesterday (which unfortunately I can't find now) that not only does most hate speech on social media come from a tiny number of people (3%), but most others have the impression that it comes from far more people than this.
We have a similar misunderstanding of history. We think fascism in 1930s Europe had widespread support, but in fact the path to political power wasn't through majority support - certainly in Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, etc - the pattern was limited electoral successes on the far right in the context of broader left progress, BUT precisely in reaction to the prospect of the left curtailing existing wealth and privilege, conservative establishments, represented by senior army, legal or royal/aristocratic figures, looking for a 'strong man' to reassert the old power relations.
So we have, I think, a very general misapprehension that there are lots of horrible fascists about, wheres in fact there are few, and this disguises what is really happening: in general, left/green progress, in the face of which desperate establishments, trying to preserve existing wealth and privilege, turn ever more desperately to the 'strong man' solution, ignorant of the lesson of 1930s Europe that this cure is far worse than what they see as the disease of social and environmental progress.
