#ScribesAndMakers Day 9. Is one really the loneliest number?
It's possible to be in a group of people and still be alone.
#ScribesAndMakers 9. Is one really the loneliest number?
Yes.
Ask anyone who is chronically ill and lives alone.
Able, coupled people suddenly started complaining in lockdown because they only got to see their loved ones. The same people who never had time for me. Y'all have no idea.
I hate living alone. Getting my lovely cat as a companion has been a blessing.
#ScribesAndMakers February 9: "Is one really the loneliest number?"
Depends who else is there.
I've spent time with plenty of people who made me wish I was alone.
#ScribesAndMakers day 9: Is one really the loneliest number?
Yes.
#ScribesAndMakers for February 9:
Is one the loneliest number?
No. Not even close.
For this specific one, the loneliness mostly scales with the integer itself in roughly linear fashion.

Is one really the loneliest number?
Mathematically, no.
Every number has a neighbor up or down the road, and in between there are even more.
Philosophically, also not.
A person represents [at least] three; me, myself, and I.
#ScribesAndMakers 2.8 — How do you define a book? Do audiobooks and graphic novels fit your definition?
First off, I hate when people say that audiobooks don't count as reading. I roll my eyes so far back that I can see my brain. In my eyes, even comics count as reading as well. Why shouldn't they? It's ALL reading. They all count. They're all a part of the creative writing process and enjoying the work that others have labored over. It's all literature.
#ScribesAndMakers 2.6 — Our featured creator makes graphic novels. As a reader, which do you think is more important in a graphic novel, art or words?
Every single part of a graphic novel is important. But here's the thing... It would only be a novel if the art wasn't there or wasn't even worth looking at. Just food for thought.
#ScribesAndMakers Feb 9: Is one really the loneliest number?
I dunno. There's a case for all the prime numbers being equally lonely.
#ScribesAndMakers 2/9 Is one the loneliest number?
When I was a kid, I noticed that I became very uncomfortable in groups and crowds. It got to a point where I was intentionally isolating myself because I felt so much more at peace when I was by myself. I could dream and think and not have to explain why I was so quiet all the time.
To this day, I'm still more comfortable alone than in social groups, but I also know it's important for me to stretch my comfort zone and form connections with good people.
So no, 1 wasn't the loneliest number for me. It was the safer, peaceful number.

Is one really the loneliest number?
No.
Proof: just between zero and one, there are an infinite number of numbers that have never been used, and, indeed, will not be called upon before the sun goes supernova.

Is one really the loneliest number?
This presents something of a paradox. I never feel profoundly alone when I'm the only person in the room. The more people there are in the room with me, the more likely I am to feel alone.
In writing mode...hell, in just about any creative mode...I prefer my own company. I'll share when I'm done with whatever I'm working on.
#ScribesAndMakers 02/09—Is one really the loneliest number?
Being alone isn't the same as being lonely. I've felt loneliest in groups, even among friends.
I'd argue that three is loneliest, if you're just a level one friend tagging along with two best friends.
Fun song, tho.
#ScribesAndMakers 5: You now have the same occupation as the main character of your current WIP (or book you are reading/last read) What job are you doing?
Office worker.
Largely inferred by the fact that she's able to take a tropical vacation once a year.
#ScribesAndMakers 8: How do you define a book? Do audio books and graphic novels fit your definition?
Thanks to the goofball way that ebook stores work, I presently define a book as something I can sell on an ebook store. Plus some things I can't. Which basically means a story that's 4K or longer can be a book regardless of its format. I'm not sure what the minimum length is for a graphic novel or children's picture book.
To be clear, the part of this that I resent is the part where a 4-5K story is a 'book' rather than a short story. Which it definitely is when I'm publishing it as a 'short' book. (I also resent the fact that pricing policies on #Amazon and #Draft2Digital mean I more or less have to price a short at $2.99 USD.)
Kind of off in the weeds here at this point. Getting more to a point, I'm generally not accepting of gatekeeping definitions. I will happily define book as broadly as possible. I would just like to be able to to call a short story a short story.
#ScribesAndMakers 9: Is one really the loneliest number?
Nah, but it is one hell of a Harry Nilsson song.
#ScribesAndMakers Feb 9 - Is one really the loneliest number?
Not according to Nicomachus of Gerasa (60AD - 120AD) who believed the number 1 ro be "masculo-feminine", and the root of all potential creation ...amongst other things.
I don't really have an opinion myself. 🙂
#ScribesAndMakers 9 Is one really the loneliest number?
Well, if it's a metaphor for being alone, then it depends on what a person wants. One is certainly lonely when a person doesn't want to be alone, but it's not universal. And unfortunately I think some people who might otherwise be perfectly content alone get a lot of pressure not to be.
Otherwise, 1 stands on its own as well as any number, and can be combined with any number of other numbers, including a whole mess of other 1s.
111111111111111111111
But then again, just because all of those 1s are strung together doesn't mean some of them aren't lonely.
Combine it with other 1s and 0s and it can do some pretty remarkable things. Are they lonely, though? Maybe they're too busy to think about it.

Is one really the loneliest number?
Of course not. Everybody knows and loves 1.
OTOH, we have spent centuries trying zo reach pi. We can get tantalizingly close, but it is doomed to stay out of our recmach forever.
Poor thing must have a horrible case of touch starvation.
