A great piece pulling together and summarising the author's investigation into various aspects of AD&D's implied setting over the last few months.
I've been thinking about my observation that the five-or-so silos comprising the #ttrpg scene are ideological in nature.
One of the characteristics of ideology is that it totalises... It's not just a school of thought but a vision of the world and you don't necessarily realise you have an ideology until you encounter someone who rejects it.
I've noticed a few people claiming that 'Gamism' isn't a thing anymore but I would argue that it is about 80% of the hobby and *growing*
By the end of the 90s I'd gamed with well over 2,000 different gamers and was pretty sure I'd double that within the next decade.
That didn't happen. I no longer keep a close count, but I _never_ made it all the way to 3,000 that I can tell (or if I have, only just).
Mainly, getting married and no longer living at conventions made all the difference. 😅
Which is to say, I wouldn't change a thing.

The way many folks write about gaming makes RPGs sound like a nonconsensual struggle between spiteful, greedy people who dislike one another.
Like, the idea that it's a group of friendly folks eagerly and affectionately sharing in imaginary challenges would never cross their minds.
No wonder they never quite "get" what I'm on about. 😅

I am a _little_ silly about wanting to put PDFs inside other PDFs, to the point where I'm sitting here pondering putting PDFs into some of my PDFs that don't already have other PDFs in them.
