Well, its not clear quite how serious the UK is on joining the EU' Security Action for Europe (Safe) programme to organise European defence procurement...
Against a demand (request?) for a contribution of €6.7bn, the UK's opening offer is €75mn, suggesting that it is unlikely the two sides will reach an agreement on participation in SAFE by the end-of-month deadline.
Looks like the UK's Military Keynesianism*will* be a purely domestic affair, after all.

I have no idea what the full scope of SAFE is, but I’d take a small bet that the UK wants access to a limited sector, and wants to pay accordingly, while everyone else stands behind no cherrypicking and larger members need to pay more to cover smaller members. With a small element of here’s a middle finger. 🖕
Possibly, but if that's the case it still suggests the UK is not really understanding where we are.... in relations to the EU

The UK’s offer seems both unrealistic and insulting. Definitely it’s sending ‘we don’t want to do this’ vibes. Not a good start!

Not a surprising deduction after all. I find is significant that over the centuries, it has been European nations (and contemporarily the EU) which have been more willing to bring England closer to the Continent and not the other way around. I find it odd, because of Britain’s historical roots. That love-hate relationship the UK has with the EU is tiresome, illogical, irrational and frankly antagonistic to building anything to counter the US malaise.
