Gone that Dell, of all companies, are the first to realise (or say it out loud) that their customers don’t want AI PCs - and it’s actively hindering sales.

@GossiTheDog Dell is probably realizing that despite all their partnerships (Microsoft, nVidia, Oracle, etc) they have been screwed over by these same partners hogging all the memory silicon… bottom line (PC/Server sales -> all non-HBM!) is going to suffer… so why promote a bubble you are effectively NOT in…
@GossiTheDog
> AI probably confuses them more than it helps them
TIL "confused" in marketing speak means "outraged". All the non-apoligies GamersNexus received make so much sense now.
Finally, I don't care for AI. Not interested in training it nor developing it. What's my incentive?
@GossiTheDog 100%. I’m writing up a review of the computer I bought last fall, a Copilot+ PC, and one of my significant talking points is that I’ve never once used any of the Copilot features, and it’s the best machine of its kind I’ve ever used without and despite them.
@GossiTheDog When I'm not building a computer from scratch, I usually get a Lenovo or Dell. Always been satisfied with their product line. Glad to hear they won't be making things worse.
@GossiTheDog Only a #StableGenius or a #KeyboardWarrior living with his parents would buy an #AI #clanker spewing #slop. 🤷🏻♂️
@GossiTheDog Good! Almost makes we want to buy a Dell/Alienware machine, but I do not yet need a new computer. My Linux boxen are all running strong.
Dear readers, if you are thinking about buying new computers, please do note that Dell is on the BDS list.
Buying refurbished computers is also something to consider with our climate crisis in mind.
@GossiTheDog I will say this for Dell, of the two products I bought from them a laptop and lately a desktop and both served me well. The latter I stripped of all ai apps and options so the way Alan Turing intended. The fad is dying it's good to see.
@GossiTheDog I think this also hindered adoption of computers with Snapdragon X CPUs. They were marketed as "AI/Copilot" laptops, with very little emphasis on their actual benefits (power efficiency, performance).
@GossiTheDog they also used to ship machines with Linux pre-installed "back in the days", so that might be something as well.
Not trusting them for a second though.
@GossiTheDog what small businesses wanted this past year? PCs that would run Windows 11 since 10 was going EOL and their MSPs were saying "you MUST upgrade." Throw in a side of "I don't need gaming graphics or AI, I need something I can afford because Trump put my business in the shitter."

@GossiTheDog yes!!! I love Dell let’s fucking go!!!!
@GossiTheDog First good news i've read this year.
@GossiTheDog I've got two Dell Latitude Laptops in front of me as i type this, and no AI in sight!
glorious!
whooohoo!
@GossiTheDog They’re right, and everyone would have known it if they did a ffing marketsurvey first or if they just tried to listen to the consumer first, but they never do.
@GossiTheDog That's only because Dell thinks that 'AI' stands for 'Autonomous Ignition'
