#Draft2Digital lately announced that they were partnering with #Bookshop to allow authors to publish there as well. They were pretty vague about that but authors quickly found out that #erotica need not apply.
After an outcry, Draft2Digital announced that the restriction against erotica was “temporary” until they could put in “additional safeguards”.
Due to crappy behavior and a lack of transparency, it’s hard to know how to take this announcement.
It's not just the books being blocked, either. If you publish one erotica, then you as an author seem completely blacklisted.
@shaknais I’ve run into an author who had one erotic work they couldn’t send from #Draft2Digital to #Bookshop but whose other works could be sent there. It would be nice to have any degree of transparency and consistency.
Between this and D2D declaring most non-fiction forbidden for their authors, I’m quickly becoming frustrated and disgruntled.
Losing Smashwords "Pay What You Want" feature has been my biggest pain point, and more and more D2D feel... Like a grift.
@EveHasWords @shaknais Yeah, that sucked. And their obvious interest in making a deal with AI companies. There are features D2D has that I like, i.e. splitting royalties among several authors but D2D was good as an alternative to Smashwords, not the sole distributor. They have always been more uptight about erotica there and I feel like it's one more instance where you are punished for being honest. Erotica authors are clearly not part of the image they would like to project, just like Amazon.
