The economy is not working for many young people!
'Youth unemployment now stands at 14.0%, the highest for nearly five years. Yet more worryingly over the course of 2025 around one in five unemployed young people had been unemployed for over 12 months, an increase on the previous year. This type of long-run unemployment early in a persons’ working life can result in lifelong decreased earnings and higher unemployment risks in the future'!
@ChrisMayLA6 I wonder if this is partly a circular problem ? Young people having less money, means less money spent in places that employ young people, which means young people have less money ... ?
Seems plausible. There also seems to be an increase in the number of over 50s and 60s taking on the minimum wage starter jobs to tide them over until their pensions kick in.

I think that's quite likely part of it.... its a long-term problem too, a chunk of the cohort will not have early work experience & so will require inculcation later, as well as training, altogether its bad news
@ChrisMayLA6 It's reminiscent of the worst of the Thatcher years. Just less painful because we have more programmed distractions. At least Suella has a plan! Forget higher education. Remember your place. Be an apprentice!
