FDroid loves dropping random popups showing error messages at the bottom of my screen which disappear too quickly to be read, cannot be screenshotted, and anyway are totally nonactionable

@mcc Background apps displaying toasts is such an anti-pattern. Toasts are those little disappearing notifications that you refer to, in case you didn't know the term: https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/notifiers/toasts
In fact, I think toasts in general are mostly an anti-pattern. They're not quite as bad if they're a direct quick message like "Sending..." in direct response to a user action, though there is likely better UX than toasts even for that use case.
I don't understand why Android doesn't just deprecate and remove this feature. There are much better notification methods

@unlambda actually it is very confusing because they are not standard toasts. i'm sincerely confused how they're displaying them.
@[email protected] "This thing that might be a guid is not what I expected!" isn't that helpful if it doesn't tell you which guid for what from where and is there anything I can do about it anyway. It's put me off FDroid fairly heavily even if I wanted to like the idea.
@mcc I want to use fdroid on my Nvidia Shield TV but I won't because I don't want to see those popups while I'm using my TV.
