I don't know who needs to hear this is that moka pots are a cheap and easy to use way of making espresso that requires no supplies but coffee grounds and no technology more complicated than a stove. Seriously, they're great. What they produce is about half the concentration of regular espresso but lots of places just put 50% water in anyway, right?

@mcc We stayed in a cave under the Alhambra in Granada, and we had a moka pot there. When we got home we immediately bought one 😊 I love it.
@mcc Yeah ... I've tried Aero Press and pour overs and just about everything else and a Moka pot Americano is the least hassle around.
@[email protected] preaching to the choir, i love them.
@[email protected] @[email protected] see also aeropress. Even easier to clean, and only needs a kettle not even a stove. I mean, I live in Italy and regularly get compliments on my coffee, so it can't be too bad. I suspect because I spend the money on decent Fairtrade beans rather than 'capsules'...
@[email protected] @[email protected] i do not like capsules.
@[email protected] I find them horrific on quite a number of levels, I have to admit.
@[email protected] @[email protected] Of course, you do have to ignore the bizarrely pretentious cult around them in some groups online, but that's easy given they're other people online, and ignoring other people online is a required life skill these days anyway. Especially when they're being pretentious about a (checks notes) simple plastic plunger?
@mcc Used to use one all the time when I was living in Munich. Fantastic little coffee maker. The whole ritual of brewing coffee with one of these is pure, undiluted joy.
I should get a moka pot when I'm more financially stable. Thank you for stirring those memories.
@mcc Yep. As a long time coffee nerd I'm a big fan of moka pots. They have a few quirks but after some practice are the most reliable way to easily make a strong espresso-like brew.
Here's my faithful old friend.
@mcc do you have a recommended one? Is the one brand with the guy in a suit holding up a finger the way to go?
Make sure to clean it after each use though, aluminum will freak out if you leave moisture on it.
@mcc Bialetti make stainless steel Moka pots, I know a couple of people who bought one because they preferred that to aluminium. Technically the steel probably won't conduct heat as well (?) but having had a go with both types I didn't notice the difference
@mcc also don’t put it in the dish washer. I ruined one doing that.
Oh wow. I haven't ever heard of Moka Pots before. i have some DuckDuckGo searching to do
@mcc yes! Between my moka pot and my cheap milk heater/frother thing, I can make a damn convincing cappuccino facsimile with much less trouble and expense.
@mcc is that what they're called? I've been looking for those and ended with an old school percolator. I still love it though.
@mcc I loved mine! I still have it, but the drip coffee machine is even easier ;)
I like taking the moka pot car camping.
