@GossiTheDog I'd refer you to the colonial history of India, where a quarter of the world was run by a peak of 120,000 British subjects; about 40,000 civil servants and the remainder in the army.
@GossiTheDog I'd refer you to the colonial history of India, where a quarter of the world was run by a peak of 120,000 British subjects; about 40,000 civil servants and the remainder in the army.
@GossiTheDog I mean, the general consensus here is that the government is doing a great job running out country, so why not just simply add another...
@GossiTheDog you can run any place very cheap with a private equity mindset.
Running a colony is a venture that has historically proven to be something of a guaranteed money maker.
@GossiTheDog I fucking hate this country and I can't believe we haven't caged this wild orange animal yet.
@GossiTheDog remember, for Donald Trump "run" has always been synonymous with "loot"
@GossiTheDog I mean, the European colonial powers „ran“ many countries around this globe and profitted big time - and there are a lot fo resources to extract from Venezuela…
@GossiTheDog I'd say look to how England "ran" its colonies, especially, but not exclusively, India, Egypt, what later became South Africa, the places formerly known as Rhodesia, and the Bahama islands.
@GossiTheDog not if you only care about the oil wells.
@GossiTheDog My guess is this was Trump talking out of his ass as per usual.
@GossiTheDog "Treuhandanstalt" vibes
First state to be administered by AI, obviously
@GossiTheDog I assume it means the usual colonial scheme: enslave the population, steal their resources and leave them so little they can't muster any resistance.
So basically same as the US.
@GossiTheDog they want to send some military grunts in to defend some rich businessmen while they strip it bare. It’s the only thing these politicians think government should be doing
@GossiTheDog they mean "loot"
Twenty eight and a half million people might have an opinion about that…
@GossiTheDog And ground troops. If that is the plan, they can't run it from attack helicopters.
This is all so deeply upsetting.
@GossiTheDog it probably isn't a good idea if you live in Venezuela. Some may believe that it is a good idea, because it facilitates looting. We'll see how that goes.
@GossiTheDog "run" as in, "this company is now run by a private equity firm".
@GossiTheDog That's why he's got Jared, isn't it? Farms the work and risk out, but keeps the profits in the Trump house.
@GossiTheDog the US cannot even run the US!
I think they meant to say, "Run it into the ground."
@GossiTheDog our government doesn’t have an actual plan to run our government, so I think they’re fully qualified to take this on.
@GossiTheDog he couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. He's already messing up running one country and now he wants to run two?
@GossiTheDog Agreed - it's very hard to run a country when some of the residents really don't want you there and have backing from other countries including clandestine weapons shipments. Heck the UK didn't exactly maange well in Northern Ireland and that was next door.
It means US soldiers on every street corner getting shot regularly, people trying to repair oil refineries finding they keep exploding and drones turn up regularly.
If there isn't an internal revolution this will be Iraq 2.0
@GossiTheDog
Considering that's an interview with Trump it might be completely meaningless. As I understand from other sources the Venezuelan opposition has plans for the change in administration. It's possible Trump was informed of that and unable to keep it straight in his head.
@GossiTheDog Iraq, redux.
@GossiTheDog [Cut to 20 years from now] Supreme Dear President Eric - inheriting the role from his older brother many years ago after that "accident with a lady of foreign origin", who in turn inherited it from their father - addresses the United Trumps of America about all the "great successes" of UTA's management and stewardship of Venezuela as the last troops board a C-130 to withdraw from the current and the last of the oil rigs leave Venezuelan waters.
The cartels immediately reassert control the second the C-130 is wheels-up.
Hundreds of Venezuelans that supported the UTA's occupation are left to the mercy of the cartels. As well as the other 100 million people that were deported there for not being "proper Trumpy Americans".
Biden is blamed for anything seen as even remotely negative.
P...lan? What an interesting word. I don't think they've ever done anything like that.
This is a smash-and-grab, or an attempt at one. Any US involvement will be to secure the oil reserves of Venezuela for Looten Plunder and the rest of the Pollutioneers, cripple the economy, denude the wildlife and let the people starve to death.
What country are they going to deport all those Venezuelans too?
It wouldn't surprise me if this will be the start of a guerilla warfare the US can't win. Will cost a lot of lifes and is literally, from a scenic perspective, compareable with Vietnam. The Guerillas retreat into the jungle and play hit and run. Do you know how many forces you'll need to bring order into such a mess? How many billions the US can lose in such an operation?
And on the other hand: If China attacks Taiwan next week, what then?
@GossiTheDog
"I have a concept of a plan"
@GossiTheDog I'm hearing that they have the idea of a concept of a plan
@GossiTheDog The US will loot Venezuela of everything if they are not stopped
@GossiTheDog What puzzles me, beyond all the reasons I'm more obviously not happy about it, is how much confidence this seems to betray in being a national leader as an activity one's security forces; rather than the broad consensus within the profession that foreign policy is about little people getting consequences, can reliably make safe.
Were I a president poking at the idea that just bagging a president because simply isn't done would not be at the top of my list.
@GossiTheDog I'm wondering if it is an internal Venezuelan coup facilitated by the USA.
@GossiTheDog the Trump administration has a highly detailed and well thought out plan that has been painstakingly put together by the greatest diplomatic minds of our time
@GossiTheDog CIA always has a plan
The world talks about democracy.
But who decides who deserves it? Venezuela Crisis
When one nation acts as the World’s Only Unilateral Judge, Jury and Executioner, international law stops being law—and becomes leverage.

@GossiTheDog I belive nobody really cares. This is all done for news cycles and brinkmanship, I fully see it in the realm of possibility that Venezuela might simply be privatized by US companies with the population being basically either enslaved or driven out. At that point, just look at how russia operates.
@GossiTheDog
If we would stand on a podium and declare, we would "run" country X from now on, we would expect a plan. Because we wanted to succeed. Even if success were only value extraction.
For Trump/MAGA it is already a success if nobody really complains and/or if Venezuela sinks into chaos.
Yes, the oil might not be as cheaply obtainable. But they would know everyone's afraid of them now. Which is worth much more.
@GossiTheDog are they going to start with a new DOGE?
@GossiTheDog grok how to run venezula?!
@GossiTheDog does chevron really not have anyone lined up?
@GossiTheDog the US can't even run their own country lol
An actual plan?!?! In this economy??
