here's something I'd not have thought of-- putting a battery pack in the cooktop, so now it can deliver 10kW to a burner
@regehr Huh! I've been a happy Control Freak user for a few years, but it has its downsides. I'm curious about this.

For Rana Foroohar (FT), the defining logic of the Court of the Tangerine Tyrant's action is a longer term battle for the control of the resources that will underpin political economic success in the C21st.
She likens this to the C19th period of 'great game' imperialism that saw the major states seek to capture & exploit resources through military power & colonialism.
For many seeking to use the lens of imperialism to understand US actions this will make a lot of sense.
As more ICE & Federal agents arrive in Minnesota, from this side of the Atlantic, it looks almost as if the Court of the Tangerine Tyrant is trying to provoke a (localised?) civil war... what could be the motive?
Declaration of a state of emergency & the suspension of the mid-term elections perhaps?
More distraction from the Epstein Files (lack of) release(s)?
Or both?
Or something else?
@ChrisMayLA6 The elections will not be suspended.
Am I to hate my forebears?
I don't, really.
Even tho they were unsavory as could be, and held views I'd never hold, and gave my mother the trauma that messed up her life so bad.
Ya get to a certain age and you begin to really understand the idea that we're all doing the best we can.
You begin to understand that, sometimes, for some people, "the best we can" is just fuckin' *awful*.

It took bestie some years to find my actual maternal grandfather.
There were some false positives along the way.
My *favorite* false positive was an African-American mule trader who ended up in Leavenworth.
Like. How cool would that have been?
But we found the real guy, eventually.

This is what we need, #ICE on ice!
@stux That looks like it hurt. I hope it hurt.
She did not raise my mother, nor did she like my mother. But she liked me and my brother well enough.
An absent mother, a flapper, a bitter reformed alcoholic, racist beyond any ready imagining, she is the people I come from.
It took us some years to find my mother's father. Who was not mentioned. She married a railroad executive Mason, and the two of them treated my mother like shit. Trauma, innit.

The EU has broken cover, demanding an agreement on significant insurance (a 'Farage clause') should any future Govt. break a deal concluded as part of the EU/UK 'reset'.
For some time people have been opining that the EU's reticence in offering concessions was linked to their view that a ReformUK Govt. would renege on any deal, and now they are willing to put a price on that risk!
The EU's position is they're unwilling to do any deal only likely to last three years!

@ChrisMayLA6 It’s the only way to work around justice and democracy. The US is in a state of ‘Rule by Law’ instead of ‘Rule of Law’. You’ve got a president who had himself placed above the law and now dictating it. If rule of law and justice would be applied, _all_ current enforcers, GOP members and oligarchs would end up in jail. So they destroy justice and democracy. 🤷♀️
Yes completely agree: the 'thick' norm of the Rule fo Law has been largely replaced by the 'thin' rule by law... which for a state that has historically been run by lawyers is an indictment of the legal profession among other things (of which this is course by no means the most serious).
My grandma was not a classical grandma of loving light.
If you said to her, "I wish ...", her response was pretty automatic:
"Wish in one hand, shit in the other, and see which one fills up first."

@ElPamplina is it possible to see the network calls in devtools and check the payload? I can't seem to be able to replicate this on my side unfortunately 🥲
Away from the media spotlight the pay dispute in Further Education reaches strike action next week; but not all colleges reached the vote threshold for acton, and of those that did eight FE Colleges have settled the dispute with acceptable pay rises, leaving 25 Colleges on strike next week in England (including my local Lancaster & Morecambe College).
Its time the Govt. funded FE properly, not just spotting pious words with too little cash.
