One of the ways I use randomization in the #Hammondal #WorldBuilding process:
My master "to do" list has hundreds of items left on it. I use a randomizer to pick, much of the time, which "to do" I'll tackle at the beginning of each workday.
This sounds trivial, but, the order of jobs tackled has proven very impactful, in a fun way. 😀
I know I'm slightly over-excited about #Hammondal because I'm having a LOT of thoughts that belong in a file labeled "Really Getting Ahead Of Ourselves, Here."
Went to a #ttrpg meetup tonight, a sort of GM speed dating. GMs set up at tables and people circulated to find out what campaigns and such were on offer. We might be able to get the Majat scenario off the ground. There were a few people with actual interest in that one. The heist angle seemed to appeal.

Not a new edition (same file from 2021 for the game itself) but _definitely_ a new ReadMe!
Risus is now open for use by all. That's _potentially_ exciting; I look forward to seeing what, if anything, comes of it.
Apparently this happened on New Year's Eve. This is the first I've heard of it ... but I'm always behind the curve on such things.

After that it's definitely technique articles, whether for GMing or designing or related craft like map drawing or producing player handouts.
After that, other forms of directly-usable resource. A listicle of 15 historical poisons, frex.
Then, stories of notable table moments, often with reflections on lessons learned.

*Boy* do tech bosses not get this. Take Microsoft. Their big bet right now is on "agentic AI." They think that if they install spyware on your computer that captures every keystroke, every communication, every screen you see and sends it to Microsoft's cloud and give a menagerie of chatbots access to it, that you'll be able to tell your computer, "Book me a train to Cardiff and find that hotel Cory mentioned last year and book me a room there" and it will do it.

Musing about comparisons between #ttrpg, and #videogames.
I feel like one interesting difference is that, as a videogame designer, you have to come up with interesting solutions to any problem you present to your players, because no solution can exist outside of what you put in the game (caveat for #imsim maybe? but even then you have to make sure some solution does exist lest you'll just lock the game).
On the other hand, as a ttrpg DM building an adventure, you can (and maybe should?) put in obstacles without envisionning yourself how to bypass them, because your players will be the one coming up with clever (or, more often than not, bonkers and silly) solutions from the top of their heads.
Tonight's #Hammondal writing was particularly scatterbrained: Secrets hidden in public mosaics, cultures joining to battle plague, a Wolf King in exile pretending to be a pet, a dangerous drug beloved by foppish duelists, the spiritual needs of aquaculture specialists, places where mad queer inventors room together, pirate politics intersecting with the Cúndan Duille, and the social stomping grounds of the city's candlemaking vampires. 😅
But that's also why I like city books so much.
My go-to #TTRPG metaphors are always sex, music, or food, and today's a music day for sure.
To understand how I see RPGs _culturally,_ just start with this: D&D culture has always been Country (including all its phases and pretenses) and RuneQuest (and Glorantha in particular) is, very specifically, the Kingston Trio.
If you enjoy the unscientific rush of Confirmation Bias, I can tell you: this _delivers,_ and keeps delivering across the decades. 🎵😂🎶

I see that Yog-Sothoth.com closed on January 1st because it was getting too expensive to maintain. I was a frequent visitor before they put the paywall up, and I remember it being a really good resource for Call of Cthulhu. Hopefully, something is done to keep the info available (and not behind a paywall).
