Google announced that as of September 2026, it will no longer be possible to develop apps for the Android platform without first registering centrally with Google. This registration will involve:

- Paying a fee to Google
- Agreeing to Google’s Terms and Conditions
- Providing government identification
- Uploading evidence of the developer’s private signing key
- Listing all current and future application identifiers

My MIL has an old #Nook HD that sat in a drawer for years. During our current visit she asked me to figure out whether it's still useful for anything.
As far as I can tell, it's completely useless as a Nook at this point, and the newest version of Android I can find any trace of being able to flash onto it is #Android 7, which I think is too old to be worth the bother (I suspect most current apps won't work with Android 7).
Any thoughts or advice about what to do with it other than recycling?
