Keir Starmer's close team has shifted in gender terms to become more dominated by women; is this:
a recognition of the negative impact of the boy's club that preceded this shift, reflecting a perception that women do politics differently?
the usual introduction of females to a failing project so they can (now) share the blame?
something that requires no comment; its gender essentialism to think them being women makes a difference; its their political views that matter?
I would have to say that the record of #vidhyaalakeson - who has been in that central team for some years - is rather encouraging. She did have the sense to recognise that a problem was developing with #muslim voters and the clout to get campaigning resources to constituencies where this mattered. Among others #shabanaMahmood and #wesstreeting owe their seats in the #houseofcommons to her possession both authority and sense, Not sure that they would admit that though! 😀
