The way many folks write about gaming makes RPGs sound like a nonconsensual struggle between spiteful, greedy people who dislike one another.
Like, the idea that it's a group of friendly folks eagerly and affectionately sharing in imaginary challenges would never cross their minds.
No wonder they never quite "get" what I'm on about. 馃槄
@SJohnRoss I have played with kind people and I've still experienced these patterns. I think one aspect is rules lawyering. It might not feel like you're being spiteful if it's "just the rules". Also, some players were competitive and seemed to enjoy one-upping each other in game. And I think that's okay - if it's consensual.
But I very much like how your style discourages those aspects by putting in-character tactics over intricate rulebooks and by emphasizing warmth. I don't need that stress 馃槄
@SJohnRoss In my experience, most people don't even "get" cooperative board games.
