@grimalkina @grimalkina interesting that you left Glasgow University for that tour. If you'd been there 15 years earlier, you could have seen Muffy Calder who was head of Computer Science there and had some incredible research papers. She was intimidating until you got to know her.

You spoke about how men/women are more alike in the common areas and that the 5th percentile is harder to measure and less relevant generally to society. I agree with you that it's less relevant to society, but the magnificent 7 would say they're trying to hire from that pool, so it seems relevant to them. I'm not arguing the Google memo (I never read it) is correct, but rather that the motivations of the magnificent 7 may be different than those of larger society.

(Of course claiming to hire from the top 5th percentile and actually putting policies in place that might threaten the social dominance of Stanford, et al are very different things. I'm taking the magnificent 7 at their word rather than at their action here.)
