My goodness, the lad gets it. There is one criticism that’s valid about DEI and it’s exactly the point being made here.

An equitable distribution of backgrounds fitted in a brutal hierarchical system doesn’t end the brutal hierarchical system.

To paraphrase Bill Clinton‘s, most famous political slogan, it’s the class system stupid

Social political and economic equality in decision-making power is an equal society and it’s a free society. These things are inseparable.

@ChrisMayLA6 i like that this brings up the idea that "rapid class mobility" means being ok with a system where some people have to suffer a very miserable life, as long as we set up a good enough triage process that signals certain wrong kinds of people (who are not me) as "undeserving" and sends them to punishment

Social mobility should not be regarded as a substitute for equality but as something associated with and thus complementary to it. There is a pretty strong relationship between the two across countries. Occasionally somewhere does better on one than on the other - #France does economic equality better than social mobility while the reverse seems to be the case for the #Netherlands .

@ChrisMayLA6 They might as well be saying: We will solve people’s problems by setting up a program that picks the smartest of the slaves to become serfs, smartest of the serfs to become freemen, smartest of the freemen to become petit-bourgeois, et cetera.

It has an air of justice without having justice, and retaining control of the elites.
