@davidallengreen Can you reserve final judgment until you’ve seen Ben Fensome‘s fabulous Budget P&P version (on YouTube and elsewhere?)

On the whole, I agree though, Austen‘s writing is just so wonderfully incisive, witty and human that it does not translate to any other medium.

@davidallengreen the Matthew Macfadyen/Keira Knightley film adaptation’s my favourite. Just gorgeous to look at and a masterclass in adaptation.
It’s not the same as reading the book, but it captures far more of the book’s spirit than it has any right to.

There’s a magnificent single take sequence in the Netherfield ball that’s has almost the same precision with the language of film as Jane’s precision with prose.

@davidallengreen Blasphemer! The series actually got me reading the book (and others by Austen) at a time my English was considerably worse than now. (Still bad, I know 😋)

@Annaspanner Yes, good costume drama, nice visuals. Little to do with the novel. Could have been Bridgerton.
