I see a few MPs & ex/sitting cabinet minsters (not all presumed candidates for leader of the Labour Party) are coming out saying that they warned Keir Starmer not to appoint Peter Mandelson... now I can see why they're doing this, but it does look like they're not that interested In helping Mr Starmer extract himself (and the party?) from his latest self-generated crisis.
@ChrisMayLA6 It cannot be Streeting. He’s busy deleting all his conversations with Mandelson. And he’s totally immersed with Palantir and Friends of Israel. Add in his vile transphobia. And that he barely squeaked in as an MP. There’s no one clean enough on the current Front Bench who would be acceptable to the public, and who would repair Labour’s tattered image.

If he resigns, it's very close to the locals in May. Could they get through a leadership election in time to put on a decent campaign? Reform are already electioneering for the locals.

I wonder which aspirant will surface first: Rayner, Streeting? More of the same, as deep into Labour Friends of Israel and Palantir as Starmer. Same ties as Epstein, same corrupt network.
But oh look, I bet Burnham and his supporters are kicking themselves before the local elections.
Somehow I think the new management will be the same as the old management.
I'm not so sure; if I was Burnham I would be wanting to keep my distance from the parliamentary party for a while - his base in Manchester has been a bit undermined by his focus on national politics in the last weeks, he'd be better rebuilding that base & biding his time, in my view.

Maybe. I'm not privy to his intentions. I kind of got the feeling he felt obliged to make the move to be an MP and was secretly relieved he couldn't do it.
That, however, is exactly who is best in power: someone that doesn't want to be.
I suspect his supporters are kicking themselves more than he is.
And as for time...always a tricky move. We have a media consensus ReforUkLtd gov coming up on the horizon soon enough.
Time to act is now.
