Imran Khan is right; the real & present danger to the right to protest can be summed up in two words that the Govt. is thinking of applying to the policing of protests:

'cumulative impact'.

This is not the first time this has come up, and we already know the danger that this slippery term involves for protests.

This is a Govt. that is seeking to (further) close down democratic rights - my parents (both old Labour) are spinning in the graves!

I’d say this fits in well with Mahmood’s restructuring of police forces to take centralised financial control over all of them.

- Make the police the arbiter of civil rights “No, you’ve used up your annual protest quota last month, come back next year”

- Control the decisions of the police, with a strong flavouring of treating everything the Home Secretary dislikes through a counterterrorism filter.

Imagine that with Rupert Lowe in charge.
