People talk about preserving the light of intergalactic consciousness, yet my bank won't let me use more than six characters for a banking card nickname.

🏦 "Well, come on now, it's not like you need more than 6 characters to label whether your card is debit or credit, right?"
🧑 "How about checking or savings?"
🏦 "Now that's just crazy talk!"
@kagan 'Round here checking is something you do in a hockey game, and your chequing account is where you get the money for the necessary equipment.
@raganwald Fair enough. I'm never sure whether Canadian English is going to use Commonwealth or US spellings for any given thing. But in this case, it makes the bank's foolishness even more egregious!
@kagan The egregiousness of it is the only reason I brought it up! Who wrote this?
By way of contrast, I once worked for a bank with 3,500,000 customers in the US. Three of those customers did their online banking with WebTV. Three!
Nevertheless, we kept it working for them, because the bank valued every customer's experience. I miss that attitude.
@raganwald Oh, good lord. I remember once when my then-girlfriend was trying to do some web development for WebTV, as a few of her relatives used it. It was a screaming nightmare.
@kagan Yes, but that's the gig: Dealing with screaming nightmares so that an elderly customer in Omaha can do their banking themselves on a system they are comfortable using.
No regrets.
