the meta-problem, that a well-meaning actor does not feel comfortable in the knowledge the 'indexable' flag can actually be treated the way it says on the label actually a massive problem for fedi
@laurenshof I don't disagree with the project goals or technological approach, but I went to the web site, I don't see a privacy policy, I don't see a name or an organisation, I don't see anything that would give me some basic trust signals other than "we (whoever 'we' is) are doing it the right way, honest guv'nor."
I personally believe it's an ethical service. I can easily see why others might not.
I look for the same with any and all services I federate with. No 'about' page? No public contact email? No privacy policy? No terms of service? Immediate lack of trust.
@jaz i mean, if the argument is "i have the indexable flag turned on in AP but that actually means i only want my data to be processed by orgs that have a solid website with a ToS and everything", than i can understand that, but that also means were in even more trouble than we already are and we should just delete that entire indexable flag, because theres too many embedded assumptions now floating around
@laurenshof @jaz Doesn't https://www.fediscovery.org already solve this?
Seems like the community should focus on bringing this live instead of everyone building their own index and running into the same pushback.
(Not even taking sides here, but we've been through all this before enough times.)
