Mentioned the book club I got put in charge of, they asked what it was, I told 'em it's not the fun bookclub and showed the Teaching with AI book. One of the students wanted to hear my opinions on it, so talked a bit about Undefined Behavior, but also impacts, security, surveillance, etc.
But anyway apologized for not having everything done due to my various committees and such and another student was like "You're fine! You're doing good!" hah
I also just love that I get trans students in my courses. All types of trans students. :)
I'm always wearing my trans bracelet and got they/them he/him as my pronouns in Zoom and such, I also mention the neurodivergence and stuff, and I think that students know that I see them and I understand them.
(Pronoun note, they/them is preferred... I mostly put the he/him to throw off people who want to use the "but it's plural!" argument. Call me he/him instead then. Also to short circuit the urge to automatically gender me as "she".)
Since I was off on a tangent anyway, and I had my Linux laptop next to me, I zoomed in from my Linux laptop and screenshared and did a lil' tour of Linux Mint as well. Just to show that it's not this big scary thing, it's just an OS.
And honestly, I've always had pretty good students. Some of the other instructors bring up issues they face or disrespectful students, but I haven't had to deal with that. Maybe if a student doesn't like me they just go full remote but can still pass the class, lol.
@Moosader My wife plays online games with some... uh... intense... players. And I sometimes ask her if she's ever had trouble. Not once. Zero times.
Listening to her play, I'm pretty sure it's the Schoolmaam Voice she uses. Even when asking a question, it is extremely clear that she will brook exactly zero shit from anybody. And thus, she does not have to.
