Sorry to get 'techy' but when I open the FT article, I don't see the reader view icon in the address bar (as referred to here - https://www.techbloat.com/how-to-use-reader-view-in-your-desktop-browser.html)

and you will have noticed that the Guardian is reporting the £1bn figure as a triumph, not mentioning at all that it was previously £3.5bn....

@ChrisMayLA6 Nobody anywhere has built a small modular reactor. There is zero evidence it can be done or will work effectively. We can’t even build a railway line for an existing technology without screwing it up and running way over budget…. Oh, I now see the benefit of allocating £2.5bn to SMRs #GravyTrain
@ChrisMayLA6 Solar, small scale hydro ans wind quick to install. Nukes could be 10 years away. Pleased to see that in my old home town of Reading at least one lock has an Archimedean screw generator. Romney lock in Windsor has one that supplies the castle

Aha, on Safari (which I'm using) its an option in the view menu... so not sure why its not appearing in Firefox I'm afraid; of course it may be because I have a (free) academic subscription to the FT? The reason I never link to FT articles is because I know for many they are inaccessible. The only other route may be via archive, but I'm not sure how that actually works (although a lot of people here use it, I know)
If everyone had their own, local energy supply then there'd be nothing to monopolise and seek rent from.
Sadly you have the same thinking worldwide...

Coincidentally, I have just watched a few briefs on SMR & an getting the impression that the technology isn’t the answer it’s purported to be.
@ChrisMayLA6 Apart from the complete stupidity for cheap domestic energy, to my mind this shows a definite intent to source bomb material locally for the next decade.
