AI can't fix climate change because the problem is politicians in the pocket of fossil-fuel interests, not a lack of information or understanding.

@petergleick
Additionally, and ‘exasperationally’, global public sentiment is greatly in favor of #ClimateCrisis remediation measures.
@petergleick you look so cute. Mr Peter.
I've said it before...
"Hey AI, solve our climate and political problems."
"Sure thing. Decarbonize the power grid, and tax billionaires until they are merely multi millionaires. Use the money for social programs like providing food, shelter, transportation and medical care to everyone."
"No, not like that."
@petergleick I guess the *claim* is that it can supposedly come up with some method of doing something to fix things. Putting aside for just a moment that that isn't actually going to work, LLMs certainly aren't "smart" enough (or, uh, thinking at all, but whatevs) to come up with something like that anyway. So it falls apart on its own. But, as you say, the *true* issue is that those at the top are all being bribed/already part of those who profit off of fossil fuels.
Yup, it’s the global financial and industrial core stupid category.
With that said the most important action is to be had at the local level with bio regionalism, which is the idea that you restore your watershed, your local food supply and make your city or town car free.
If your community can largely live off of regional resources, you are by definition living within planetary boundaries and disconnecting yourself from planet killing economy.
It also is nicer and cost less
@petergleick Then let's ask it to fix that problem instead :)
@petergleick
The problem is the industrial interests.
Itis humanly but not technically solvable.
