The world is feeling especially grim lately.
Whatβs a good thing that has happened in your world lately?

@Ashedryden Iβve tried to distract myself from the bad by diving into baking and improving my skillsβ¦ and I have! And I get a delicious reward because of it. (Most of the time. π)
@Ashedryden got a video of my 94yo grandmother cracking coconuts with a machete. πͺπ½
@rjayasinghe a family heirloom
@Ashedryden the video or the machete?
@Ashedryden Black History Movie Month!
@edgeworth ooh is there a list somewhere?
@Ashedryden when we were chatting at XOXO I had taken a phone call from my contractor. He told me he wasnβt going to be able to start my kitchen project until December.
Turns out he couldnβt start till December β25. And the project keeps getting delay after delay but the electricity and plumbing will be ready end of week!
Most of the wall tiles were attached today (sadly Fireclay didnβt send us all the tiles we ordered soβ¦ another delay).
But itβs so beautiful!
@Ashedryden Honestly? I got temporarily obsessed in the last week with learning everything I can about the Barkley Marathons (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barkley_Marathons) after a friend sent me a documentary about it. Highlight of the whole thing has been learning about Jasmin Paris, the first woman to finish it in 2024, there's an excellent short film just about her: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgTEsybXw-4
@andymcmillan I have never heard of this, itβs so bizarre! And I used to live right near this.
@Ashedryden Oh! The original doc that got me hooked is free to watch on YouTube too: https://youtube.com/watch?v=LZ-DE-hmiGE
@andymcmillan once YouTube is back for me Iβll add it to my list ππΌ
@Ashedryden @andymcmillan It just came back for me, and the documentary is excellent. I think Iβve watched it three times.
@Ashedryden All the arbitrary rules / lore around the event, especially getting in in the first place, was the initial appeal. But there are some really remarkable people who have done it, and some really compelling stories too turns out.
@Ashedryden I got an email out of the blue from a Ruby friend in the US, someone I've not been in touch with in maybe 15 years, letting me know the positive impact I've had in their life. Absolutely floored me. π₯Ή
They also noted they're trying to lean into expressing gratitude to others in these trying times, and I appreciate that nudge as well.
@Ashedryden I LAUNCHED!!!!!
Been working on a community management platform for about 18 months all on my own. Lonely, desperate, mind-scrambling work.
And I launched the first community with it. Which... is so exclusive I can't really invite anyone on here to it (unless you live near me - it's supposed to be a replacement for NextDoor and Facebook groups for my community).
I'll launch a less exclusive community I can invite you and others to soon.
@Ashedryden got called "ma'am" at the drive through despite barely bothering to make myself up before leaving the house π
