@thomasfuchs I agree with this list (pic from the #nokings protest here in Paris)
Watermills
Sailing ships
Trees (e.g., growing in rainforests, or encroaching on deserts)
Hydrogen-based steel production
Geothermal house heating
Non-fossil sources of organic chemicals for synthetic industries
Material-efficient wooden construction
Fountain pens
Open-hardware laptops
Repairable smartphones
Recycling
@thomasfuchs Mars rockets, provided the right person is on it. We'll only need one.
@thomasfuchs guillotines of course
@maikel @thomasfuchs the main problem with guillotines is that after lefties behead royalists, they start to behead each other. The French Revolution was full of examples. So you never know, from which side you will approach a guillotine tomorrow...
@thomasfuchs I personally am much more excited about tech coming from China these days. US tech is dead, poisoned by business grifters wanting to make a quick buck, consequences be damned.
@thomasfuchs all of these!
@thomasfuchs Honestly I'm also really excited about infrastructure. Like, we have the tech we need, IMO, we just need to use it at scale
@thomasfuchs
- Flywheel ♥️
- Risc V 🌈
- Heat pump 🥵
@thomasfuchs These are just some of my favourite things!
@thomasfuchs * Vibrators without Bluetooth or ties to surveillance apps
@thomasfuchs Anything Steam and AynTec are producing.
@float13 we already have fusion technology since 1883, it’s called solar cells
@thomasfuchs Storage batteries for said solar, drones.
@thomasfuchs Desalination and water purification.
@thomasfuchs energy storage, if you're me. Re-wilding tech (which can be very tech)
Agricultural tech that walks back from high-fossil-inputs and pesticides, like agrivoltatics and regenerative agriculture.
Ocean cleanup and plastic removal tech.
Micro-mobility.
@thomasfuchs
Also not mentioned yet: batteries! Lots of exciting developments there
@thomasfuchs especially in combination:
- solar powered guillotines
- piezoelectric vibrators that charge themselves on the leaked motion of the daily train commute.
- librarians trained to administer free vaccines
@PizzaDemon @thomasfuchs
- And pharmacists and medical professionals trained to share information and train patients in participating in their own health care
@thesquirrelfish @PizzaDemon you dream big, I like it
@[email protected] misread that as "violins" which yeah, hella good technology
@thomasfuchs I have worked in IT & cybersecurity for 18 years and the only technology I am excited about anymore is kissing.
Other than that, decentralized anything.
I don't identify as either, but prefer any technology that saves, improves lives, nuff said.
@thomasfuchs That escalated quickly
@thomasfuchs Computers, but when they're used to make people's lives easier and not extract every last red cent from them.
@thomasfuchs
- mRNA vaccines
@thomasfuchs Everyone in the bottom 99% should have regular opportunities to use a vibrator or a guillotine until we achieve world peace.
@thomasfuchs TORRENT! Decentralized computing and tinkering used to be about volunteer work for the benefit of the commons, once upon a time. It was only when social media invented influencers that chronically online people started getting obsessed with monetization and financial speculation.
@thomasfuchs Vaccines and scientific medicine in general
@thomasfuchs @PixelRobot I wish the left were more interested in ventilation, filtration and masking. Most leftist spaces are inaccessible to me.
@diffrentcolours @PixelRobot 100% agree. I’ve been ranting about this for years.
@PixelRobot yeah there’s a lot of tech that super exciting!
