Last time I posted this, I got a little spate of exceptionally low-quality replies about how it’s actually a good thing to misrepresent risk and old people will die anyway and who cares if they do.
I hope those people see this again and get even angrier.
@inthehands I’m not sure where I read/heard it first, but if it’s in the news don’t worry.
Casual news reporting is about sensations and anomalies. It will tell you about the blips in the radar, not the seemingly empty space.
For comparison, a U.S. resident is about as likely to be killed by a falling coconut as by a terrorist. Or, if you prefer, about as likely to be killed by a cow.
I would love to see one of these but with a way to dig into regional and time based data.
Anecdotally I've noticed a big shift in what's reported on based on what the government's stance on policing is, if it's even a little bit less than full throated support, homicide reporting goes up.
