Once you realize it’s not “age verification”, but actually “identity verification”, then it’s easy to understand that the real goal is “papers, please” for the entire internet.

@mhoye It's not even identity verification - I worked for a major insurance company, we knew how to buy records that determined who was who (Ping is a company who does this).
It worse. Add in biometric unlock - it's about PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY.
It's not that someone searched for how to kill the **********, it's that YOU did it, your face unlocked the phone, it's your ID on the account - you can't claim anyone else did it.
@mhoye and this is why it’s for the best if at all possible to avoid capitalist owned online services. Any site asking for my ID will simply not be accessed by me.
@mhoye I assume that is the moment, where the dark web gets way more popular. Not just for drugs and illegal weapon trade.
@mhoye Why is it so difficult for parents to protect the cellphone they are paying the bill for?
@mhoye I am sure other reply guys also told you in Europe with a e-wallet you can prove your age without uploading anything. https://edri.org/our-work/showing-your-id-to-get-online-might-become-a-reality-a-closer-look-at-the-eus-new-age-verification-app/
still doesnt make age verification for websites a good idea
@mhoye there are other technical ways to do only and just age veification that have been so carefully avoided that at this point it's fair to say it's entirely on purpose and that the goal is "papers, please".
@mhoye Do You Want To Start Getting $50 - $500 Payments Daily?
Pay close attention to the next page for full details about how to start flooding your account with $50 - $500 payments 👇
@mhoye not defending the age verification at all or any of that shit...
But at least they designed in Europe the upcoming EUDI Wallet (digital wallet) they now want to use for that in a way that you can for example just disclose "yup, I'm over 18" not more of your personal information
@mhoye Yup, they are tired of not being able to tell whose a dog and whose a human on the Internet 😃
@mhoye
Your papers are not in order.
@mhoye No it isn't.
They already have all of your info. We know this because the FBI just inadvertently revealed it by producing video evidence publicly that wasn't supposed to exist.
They have your info and they are feeding it to your government freely and without a warrant.
ID verification is just a simple means of proving you confirmed someone isn't a child.
@FlashMobOfOne @mhoye just because they have some info there's no need to feed them more.
@mynameistillian @mhoye You're not giving them anything they don't already have. What you're doing is proving you're an adult. That's it.
@FlashMobOfOne @mynameistillian unfortunately that’s not true. You’re also correlating your identity directly with whatever site or action you’re using through a third party who happens to be the state.
@FlashMobOfOne @mhoye According to your logic, why they would need to check it isn't a child if they already know?
@FlashMobOfOne @charogg when people say that Americans are the most propagandized people on earth it’s because of conversations like this one.
@mhoye Unpopular opinion:
Identity verification isn't so unattractive in 2026 — social media is destroying democracies via anonymous armies of bot people steered by aggressive foreign actors like Putin and Musk.
The libertarian model that the Internet was built on is failing societies.
Honestly most of the worst people on the internet are unashamed to go by their actual names and faces.
This is obviously true on Facebook and LinkedIn, but if you ever go to fascist Telegram groups, a lot of them are full of people with real names, and profile pics of them with sunglasses and baseball caps sitting in their cars. They aren't ashamed of who they are or what they do, and they aren't afraid of consequences.
@passenger @txtx are you a monochromatic horse in real life
