Actually, I always wanted to know how sampling works in music -- particularly older music.
I assume nowadays musicians can get hold of recordings from other musicians that they can sample and do whatever with.
But there are older songs that include sampling and I assume they took the sample directly from a record or something. The thing is, often there are other instruments playing so what did musicians do to get a more clean sample without the other instruments being on the recording.
There are times in songs where there is only one instrument playing, or parts where the other instruments are relatively quiet, and in those parts it should be easy to get the sample you want.
But it doesn't always seem that way so how did they do it?
