@[email protected] I think that was a large part of his point - he was writing in the 70s so that was reasonably radical and it's not like there aren't still a lot of misconceptions about 'giftedness' (such a terrible term, as you say). I've seen his work and the follow on work that built on it (Silverman etc) used to push back against the idea of the 'gifted genius', mature beyond their years, striding forwards with logical certainity because being intelligent obviously means 'being able to do more of the same thing overbody else can.'

Thanks for this great thread. I recently resorted to quitting the Elvanse because of the crashes (guanfacine smooths them out but it doesn't do miracles) and will have to talk about that with my doctor in a couple weeks.

It's been like this for a ~2 months. It just works better than either alone.

Elvanse rapidly FOR ME loses effect after 4 days on a row.

Medikinet gives much better task initiation, but on its own gives me worse emotional disregulation than Elvanse or no meds at all.

Bupropion (Wellbutrin in the NPD country) HALTS both crashes.

Sure my current plan isn't fully polished and might work only in winter where I need more help to produce dopamine due to Coruña having very few sunny days until summer. But it's one that works.

I'm predicting, in summer same as last year, I'll need less of everything.

I might have to cut the Bupropion pill in half and just have 75mg or even not Bupropion at all.

You see LEAVING the bed in the morning on Elvanse is incredibly hard unless Bupropion 8pm the day before.

Whereas with Medikinet it just halts the crash in the evening.

Medikinet there's no way to put it to me other than it is unsustainable on its own and BOTH long-term on their own (Elvanse or Medikinet) eventually make me feel Alzheimer-like in the evening, THAT was pretty scary which is why I alternate them.

Buproion has the add-on effect of improving MASSIVELY my long-term memory.

Random songs I haven't heard in decades come to my mind out of the blue with it, random recollections of things I had long forgotten.

My big-fat theory is TOBACCO, coffee and giftedness being the biggest influencers on explaining how all this works for me.

Before I was diagnosed ADHD and while I was a smoker I would go through cycles of uselessness followed by cycles of massive productivity. Those cycles were 100% attached to my tolerance to tobacco.

Hence why I got so so much worse when I quit smoking. Letting years past thinking it'll get better (never did). Eventually my long-term memory never felt the same.

And I'm certaintly sure getting COVID back in Feb 2020 (so the most fucked up strain) made this worse. Same as it made my hidradenitis get the worse it's ever been.

Now here comes the big change on my current theories about my own neurospicity. I don't think anymore ADHD is "the reason" of most of my issues. I think giftedness is.

You see, with all this self-discovery and long days and months of deep research it has come to my attention why it's always past noon and the later in the day, the worse my ADHD gets.

But also why:
1. I don't lose keys.
2. I don't forget appointments.
3. I don't.....

...have most of the common indicators of ADHD let alone most of the stuff that works (like body doubling) doesn't work for me at all.

My main ADHD issues are: task initiation + sleep inconsistence + emotional disregulation. And they all get worse as the day progresses.

The more I figured the 3 circles of the Venn diagram of ADHD+Autism+giftedness the more I realise the later is the root of all my problems.

You see the name in Engish is wrong, there's no fucking GIFT at all. Why do you think Homer put the cryon back on his nose? My ex David, who you might have seen recently with a pink tutu dancing, is the ....

@[email protected] Have you come across Dabrowski? The over simplified version is that he postulates that high development potential ("giftedness") isn't comorbid with emotional over excitability, but is driven by it. Well, that, or you self implode (he refers to growth via positive and negative disintegration as the excitability refuses to allow statis). ...perfect example of this. He smokes weed massively, to fit in. He's scared of his own brain. Power without control is ...well, pretty much Lisa puts it clearly there.

But I'm not my ex, I've been told since I was a kid that I should be doing more, let alone generally-speaking I was given the freedom to do so. But I also learnt very early on that there are two types of intelligence since I spent years as a toddler already in the psychology section to try to make sense of myself, there's: genetic and acquired.

The genetic can only push you so far, the acquired stays. Comparisons were made often at school ...
