I think it is totally rescued by the fact that one can drill down and see the individual choices. It provides a great insight to what books the authors I like really rate (when publicly asked).
Lists like this are always divisive and diverting in equal measure.

That's the standard definition of a listicle. The point is to get the reader foaming at the mouth over the criminal idiocy of the compiler.
@[email protected] it reads very much to me as a list of 'important' books much more than a list of books I would enjoy. Doesn't mean they're bad, or I don't enjoy some of them, but it's not even close to what you'd get asking me for a "good" book list.
