US voters: please call your US House representative •now•. Tell them to block this.

The Senate just voted to shovel another $70 billion dollars to ICE and CBP. That’s •on top of• ~$170 billion in 2025. This is the people who invaded my city and kidnapped and murdered my neighbors — and haven’t faced a lick of accountability for it — getting a budget larger than Russia’s entire military.

They’re breaking all the normal budget rules to do it. The US House can stop it, and Republicans are balking. Call. Protest. Light a fire under them.

@inthehands I bet it would cost like 1/100th that level of cost just to speed up the legal processes of immigration. Heck, it probably costs 1/10th just to give them all actual homes and food and stuff.

But, after all, in the end the only thing this country knows is hate. Hate for people we haven't ever even met solely because those who profit on it told us that we do.

What is this money for?

It’s to build massive, data-center-sized concentration camps.

It’s to create an unrestrained domestic military under the authoritarian control of the president.

It’s rerun the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti over and over again.

It’s to rerun the ICE invasion of Minneapolis in every major US city.

It’s to deport — or worse — every brown and Black person in the United States.

This all sounds wild, I know. It sounds like an exaggeration. It’s not.

@inthehands huh until I read this I haven’t realized how AI enables deportation…in that if you believe AI can displace workers, then you can also believe you can afford to lose all of those people in the workforce

This is the funding that Democrats shut down the government last winter to try to prevent — or at least to use as a wedge to attach some bare, minimal, miserable set of basic human rights rules like “ICE agents have to provide some form of identification before they can kidnap people off the streets.” It’s so bad that even Chuck Frigging Schumer went to the mat to fight it!

Republicans are breaking all of the normal budget process rules to avoid even those minimal rules. Let •that• be your evidence of what they plan to do the money if they get it.

FYI, I strongly recommend calling even if you know your House rep already agrees.

My rep is Ilhan Omar, and I still called her office! It was a friendly call: “I know she’s already on the right side of this and there’s only so much she can do, but now is the time to fight like hell, use every tool she has….”

It’s important to pressure elected allies, too. The pressure •helps• them:

You underline an important point: Even if your representative is likely to vote as you would wish, it's signal from constituents that the issue is important, you are paying attention, and the rep's actions matter to you.
