Protip: if you want to let someone know they’ve been nominated for an award at work, an invite for a 15-minute meeting titled “quick check in” with the CTO, an HR director, and an attorney is NOT the way to do it.
Yes, in hindsight, I realize those are the people on the award committee but COME ON.
I'm sorry that happened to you.
Our chair recently called a meeting of all of our admin staff and the associate chairs with no agenda and the admins thought it was going to be a mass firing.
TBH I'm not sure what the meeting was for, our chief departmental administrator (CDA) was about to go on parental leave so maybe it was supposed to be a check-in on how the team would work without CDA.
The meeting went off the rails due to the uncertainty.
