I'm digging into "Move Slowly and Build Bridges" by @rwg - a history and analysis of the Fediverse. The section about codes of conduct is *really* good, (selfishly, it also helps me feel a bit vindicated for my criticism of a tech conference whose CoC included "technology choices" as a protected class alongside "sexual orientation", "ethnicity", and so on!)

Anyway. Read the book. It's good and interesting.
