@victorgijsbers Yeah. 😭
The weird part is knowing it'll never look the same ... so rather than even try to re-create that work as it was, I'm deliberately working on other parts of the map now ... and when I get back to that part I'll probably deviate from my former approach, just so it doesn't feel like failing to get it right, but rather succeeding at doing it different. 🤔
@[email protected] @[email protected] I do this with code every so often, and on the one hand it feels such a waste and I hate it. And on the other hand, I then re-write the same thing in half the time and twice as well because I've already done the thing and now I know how I want to do it.
A traitorous part at the back of my brain sometimes tries to convince me that this is what "real" editing/refactoring looks like, and to write code/prose to a "good" quality I should always draft and then recreate. But that's a filthy lying part of my brain that lies, because that way lies nothing but #ADHD procrastination lock and perfectionism. I try and only let the little weasel out on things that actually need that level of polish.
@mavnn @victorgijsbers I always do draft and redraft as it is, but I agree that too much iteration isn't a great thing; it's a bullet train toward the horizon of diminishing returns. 😁
With a fantasy map I enjoy the benefit of there being only a few requirements for how it must be ... so I'm free to reimagine rather than re-create.
But I have, historically, never been sorry about it in the long run.
Only in that horrible moment of realization. 😭😭😭
@rigger It's rare, fortunately. Every five or six years. 😓 Fortunately my backups are redundant and such so it's almost impossible to lose more than one workday ... but that was an extra-long workday. 😬
@SJohnRoss Ouch! 😕
