@[email protected] Best wishes from a random stranger who happens to like your photos! Hope it goes well, life could do with more happiness these days.
Totally silly life hack when creating a physics based character that you want to stay upright and don't want to write all that fancy code for self-righting: move their center of gravity below the character's actual collision shape and let the physics engine do all the work for you... Tempted to have a play with Zen browser as it seems well presented and has sensible UI defaults.
But apart from a quick look and feel test run, using a browser for 'real' involves a fair amount of trust: anyone had any good or bad experiences? On the one hand, I can't be spending my life keeping up with internet drama. On the other, app I use for my banking and personal email... #browsers #privacy
Oh so very much this. It is staggering the number of people who are good at attracting money (via investment funding or sales) have no idea how money actually works. And many managers, including some who are good at managing people, have appalling business sense.
US voters: please call your US House representative •now•. Tell them to block this.
The Senate just voted to shovel another $70 billion dollars to ICE and CBP. That’s •on top of• ~$170 billion in 2025. This is the people who invaded my city and kidnapped and murdered my neighbors — and haven’t faced a lick of accountability for it — getting a budget larger than Russia’s entire military.
They’re breaking all the normal budget rules to do it. The US House can stop it, and Republicans are balking. Call. Protest. Light a fire under them.

@[email protected] yeah apparently something changed in new astro version. We temp commented it in beta.3 since it was using only in the weather widget for showing moon phases, and the widget is currently on hold anyway
@[email protected] @[email protected] Good work! beta.3 worked out of the box and for some reason is also using way less cpu (than beta.2)
German word for the anxiety when you run into your doctor in public because this man knows some truly uncomfortable things about me.
@[email protected] I suspect it's part of a mini-dictionary of related terms: "feeling when the blind date partner is my therapist", "feeling when the interviewee was my primary school teacher", "feeling when Philip Wadler sits in the front row as you get up to give your first ever conference talk and it's about functional programming, and then puts his hand up for a question at the end" (some of these may be more personally specific than others...)
@[email protected] Just as a heads up, to start the docker container for beta.2 I needed to manually download the file de440s.bsp and expose it in a volume at /root/.cache/astro/de440s.bsp
@[email protected] I have no idea why Astro was unable to download it automatically? Other outbound http on the container are working fine, so I'd guess a file system permissions issue within the container but I might be totally wrong.

> Omg I showed that PR to our writer just last week ... . Even envisioned switching our ink_compiler to see what's what, but figured I'd wait a bit to see if it was merged in the main repo. I couldn't find an update to WritingWithInk but happy to be able to read more in that blogpost! Awesome work.
Apparently my 'stacks in Ink' post has a fan! As an aside, if you've enjoyed or admired something you've read/used/remembered today and you know who created it: let them know! You'd be surprised how little positive feedback even the most 'popular' projects get, and seeing it is a massive mental health boost to whoever created the thing™ you like so much. #MentalHealth #Blog #CreatorAppreciationReminder #Stacks #HmmmmStackedPancakes #DataStructures

Just in case any of you have been waiting to pay someone millions of euros to blow up your enemies with fantasy #forth while progressing through a choice based story: now's your chance!
"What is good in life?"
Conan: "To hear the lamentations..."
Kant: "Potato"
Conan: "...yeah, okay. I'll give you that."
@[email protected] Next question for me is something good for keeping my place in podcasts #podcast

What player do you use? I was looking at similar setup but couldn't find a client I liked.
@[email protected] MALP on android and some scripts currently, with the audio playing via AirPlay from a Raspberry Pi to a few different speakers around the house. It's not super awesome, but it appears to do the basics and is pretty fast.
Whelp, it's taken a lot longer than I would have liked but I'm finally managing to take the time out to move the whole family's music from Spotify subscriptions to mp3s on a self hosted mpd instance. It's a lot easier to hook into things like OpenHab as well; while nothing is a reliable means of getting a teenager out of bed, programmatically escalating light and #progrock volume levels are the best we've found so far.
And we get to both save money and support artists more directly; although we like music it isn't like we buy an album+ a month at the moment. #music
