Someone had a couple of owls, and were letting people see them up close. I am ignorant as to the variety. So handsome.

You can see why they are sometimes called "ghostly".
Fun facts... #BarnOwls have their own genus (Tyto) and live on all continents except Antarctica.
Barn owls have excellent low-light vision, and can easily find prey at night by sight.
π But their ability to locate prey by sound alone is the best of any animal that has ever been tested. π
[This is facilitated by one ear opening being higher on the skull than the other--giving them 2-axis discrimination for sound. Most birds/animals only get left vs right.]
They can catch mice in complete darkness in the lab, or hidden by vegetation or snow out in the real world. #Birds #Hearing
