Physics engines are so much fun to play with. Just had a first project based #gamedev session with a new student, and went from zero to a player controlled #godot block bouncing around and bashing evil red godot faces out of the way - all in under an hour.

And there's just so much built in entertainment from what you're working with. Most (not all) bugs are just randomly funny rather than deeply frustrating - watching the player drop off the screen because there's no floor, firing them out of view because you typed an extra zero, etc...

@[email protected] Yeah, that's been my experience as well but I'm aware I've only looked at Unity briefly. I was mostly wondering if there were specific things that Unity had a clear cut advantage on, but it sounds like (at least for small scale single dev work) Godot is just going to be a nicer learning experience. Sounds stupid, but load speeds alone just make it feel more fun to use.

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] My comment was mostly a joke, but if you want to take it more seriously I don't see an unintended interaction between a boot time feature and your own OS's disk encryption as distinct from it seeming rushed. That's exactly the type of interaction you should be spending the time to think about when delivering this type of feature. Of course, sometimes something slips through even if you have put all the time and effort in but... it's not inspiring from the outside.

Sent out a quote today that I needed to price higher than I'd like because otherwise the service isn't sustainable. This meant I was subconsciously expecting a long and drawn out negotiation and explanation process, while what I actually got was an email half an hour later saying (basically) "where do I send the money?"

So that was a nice encouragement for the day!

@[email protected] ignoring both the ethics and the tech limitations (which we shouldn't, to be clear) I don't see the pitch here. Either I have a desire to read something super bespoke and I get "magic" to write the novel for me ('like Star Wars, but with more kumquats'), or I want to read the idea somebody else find interesting. In practice I suspect even the first option with working, ethical, tech would end up feeling unsatisfying but I don't see any world where I want to pay money for stuff other people wanted to automatically generate if I have access to the generating tech myself.
