Bananas
Anyone who thinks that lab-grown meat is "icky" has clearly never been to a slaughterhouse.
@petergleick The only reason I'd find artificial meat "icky" is that it resembles real meat too much.
Everything written by AI boosters tracks much more clearly if you simply replace "AI" with "cocaine".
I shall demonstrate!
(Not linking to OP, because it's trash.)
"Let’s pretend you’re the only person at your company using cocaine.
You decide you’re going to impress your employer, and work for 8 hours a day at 10x productivity. You knock it out of the park and make everyone else look terrible by comparison. [...]
In this scenario, you capture 100% of the value from your adopting cocaine."
I tried those minced-baby and cadaver-brain protein shakes y’all have been raving about. A week later and I do feel a little bit more alert and the diarrhea is barely explosive. There could be something to this. #ThisIsATootAboutAI
what do you think therapy -is-.
@munin
An LLM?
Like reading Tarot?
Wdym? My subtext literacy is failing me, sry :D
Yes, OK, more of this please https://char.com/
instead of flat out denying there's cases for LLMs, let's build the thing. open source, running locally, integrated with what already works, for solving actual problems people have.
@megmac *double checking the zodiac* I'm sorry, "goat" is not available. Could I interest you in lamb?
Yes, OK, more of this please https://char.com/
@matthewskelton damn Norman oppressors
@sf105 still a problem!
I really wish the AI bubble would just burst already.
There might be something interesting that comes out of the rubble. LLM technology is interesting, I've gotta admit. But it's not an everything machine that the techbros and marketing fucks want to bill it as. So we can't make something better until those fucks go bankrupt.
AI can't fix climate change because the problem is politicians in the pocket of fossil-fuel interests, not a lack of information or understanding.
I've said it before...
"Hey AI, solve our climate and political problems."
"Sure thing. Decarbonize the power grid, and tax billionaires until they are merely multi millionaires. Use the money for social programs like providing food, shelter, transportation and medical care to everyone."
"No, not like that."
Me too. Heck, I want the crypto bubble to go flat.
@BenHM3 Well, it's already dropped 30% over the last year.

What a cool idea.
i haven't read hacker news yet this year and it feels great
i guess spending time in spaces where people are speaking in a normal human way to each other is good actually
@b0rk indeed
@mjg59 Look at https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/tls/6O8UTvxsPV85iaKITi_wHQgur-A/ to see some problems Google identified.
@[email protected] you say you know rust? how many species of arthropod have you built oxidized iron enclosures for?
@whelmed look if I'm applying for a Rust job, I'm taking my Cool Crab Pride Flag, I figure they should hire me on the spot from that alone
@timbray In #curl we see good in code reviews by LLMs. But they generate a flood initially. There are issues they can find and others they are blind to
New is that they find discrepancies between comments and code. In something as old and alive as #curl this is very useful. No other tool can do that.
But we get access for free, having a brand. These are not cheap. And we could not pay for them, so…
AI economics are nuts. Bananas.
@icing AI technology may or may not make sense but I totally can't see sense in the economics.
The redesigned AT Proto site looks great. It even has a neat live firehose view.
@foone i slid down all the snakes while i was trying to find a ladder
@dysfun at one of my former jobs we had a Snakes and Ladders question we were using in interviews, but we had to stop after too many people pointed out it was impossible
Go listen to Ludger Rémy play the harpsichord and then tell me about how digital musicians are different in this way... :)
@abhayakara I don't believe I did say that
