@ProPublica The extent of Kaiser Permanente’s mental health treatment is referral to an online outfit that will give you anti-anxiety meds or antidepressants. That’s it. That’s ALL they do. They have an automated evaluation that basically asks which kinds of drugs you want, anti-anxiety or antidepressants.
Largely happy with Kaiser, but it’s disgraceful. They have outsourced ALL their members’ mental health needs to two kinds of pharmacologicals.
IMO the profession of psychiatry has committed suicide by making itself nothing more than an outlet for Big Pharma. They don’t talk to people beyond what’s needed to justify a prescription, and they don’t even want to talk about treatments that don’t involve pharmaceuticals.
We need less of that and more housing, food, daily living, and employment supports, provided by people who don’t start with the view that there’s something “wrong” with someone having financial, emotional, or cognitive troubles in a country that has reduced everyone to economic units to be exploited.
