I've mentioned Kardi a few times recently, and this is a solid intro mix of some of their recent songs from Mu:con. Unfortunately, the sound engineering isn't great compared to most of the stuff on their own channel.

So why I am sharing this particular video on the #fediverse? Because whoever's doing the marketing at Mu:con looked long and hard at their music, give up and listed them as: #Rock / #GenreFluid . I have never heard a better tag line for either Kardi or for sharing anything on the fediverse...

@[email protected] Makes sense, and I think I can run with that. I'm running an online course for teenagers on creating their own computer game assets (visual and audio) and I felt a hole in the last iteration was I didn't have a tool to suggest if they wanted to make their own music. Given I'll be covering Audacity (a bit) for doing their own sound effects and Foley work, I can easily add using it to record the browser audio output from Sonic Pi online. I think. I'll need to experiment for a moment first.

Having Sonic Pi available in the browser is such a game changer for this kind of thing, and I'm amazingly grateful for your long term work on it (and for how much the original release of Sonic Pi inspired my son to get into music composition as a hobby growing up) - if I had any money to send your way I'd absolutely be sending some over...

@[email protected] Random question: is there a few to output to a downloadable file (i.e. record a performance as at runs)? I can't see it, and I understand it isn't the main use case, but I thought I'd ask.

Just reminded in the context of this thread that a CS undergrad student ask me for some tutoring in their intro to programming course, and in the second session went "wait - how many programming languages do you know? How many are there? Do I need to know all of them?"

TL;DR: if you're consistently extremely low on energy, especially if exercise comes with mental 'fog' or delayed feelings of being drained, do not follow medical advice to gradually increase exercise to rebuild capacity until you've read up on #ChronicFatigue and #PEM (post-exertional malaise).

This one hits quite close to home; Monbiot in the Guardian gives a searing but accurate look at how poor support for anyone with #ChronicFatague / #ME / #LongCovid is in the UK and Europe - which probably includes millions of people. Why do I know it's accurate? Because I've been out of work for well over 18 months myself suffering from the condition, and I have been given exactly the bad advice in the article and had exactly the same dismissal from doctors (apart from the sexism, but that's only because I was 'lucky' enough to be born male). I don't spend a huge amount of time in the opinion sections of newspapers, but sometimes things end up there because nobody actually talking about them as news.

@[email protected] To be fair, it looks like a good chunk of the bibliography is already online in this thread :D. Can't help feeling that @[email protected] will be delivering the ideas with more enthusiasm than the original authors though. Some of the papers, while excellent, are, erm, dry.

@[email protected] I was mostly joking. But only because I knew it doesn't generally work that way - not because I wouldn't actually be interested!

@[email protected] Is there an online sign up for just this course?! PL (and the world, frankly) is badly in need of wild enthusiam directed by knowledgeable intent and tempered in the fires of historical examples, and I for one would be so on board that train

@[email protected] @[email protected] makes unreasonably proud noises at random graph

@[email protected] @[email protected] Do it! Real time grafana pretty graphs of energy production (optionally with some carefully chosen alerts) are surprisingly motivating to help things like running energy heavy appliances at the cheapest times. And even seeing historic usage can clue you into habits of energy usage you didn't realise you had.

@[email protected] Anyway, emacs key combos are super discoverable due to its amazing built in help. Just search for the operation you want to achieve! Who wouldn't think to search for "yank from kill ring"?

I genuinely love emacs, but boy do some people say some strange things about it.

@[email protected] UI serendipity would lead me (a fellow emacs user) to suggest @[email protected] 's newly coined emacsing

@[email protected] "This thing that might be a guid is not what I expected!" isn't that helpful if it doesn't tell you which guid for what from where and is there anything I can do about it anyway. It's put me off FDroid fairly heavily even if I wanted to like the idea.

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] You're not the only one. Up to there I was like "yeah, people used to assume you'd have to take laptops places and plug them into things, this is more than most but..." and then the double optical drive rolled into view.

@[email protected] The thing that took me a long time and some rather awkward conversations to understand as a child growing up in churches, but with parents who believed in God rather than "membership of a domination" is how many people take "Christianity" enormously seriously without a hint of understanding or any desire to learn about what any thing actually means. Happy to dedicate large amounts of money and time to "church activities", but then astonished to learn that Jesus was Jewish.

That's before you get to the very intelligent people who actually try and formulate theology that justifies some of these things, who I manage to have an even lower opinion of.

PSA for couriers: the only upside of #ChronicFatigue is that I am at my home when you try and deliver. Could you at least ring the doorbell?

@[email protected] Yeah, yeah, but that only evens out the average for the ones that I say "I've got five minutes, I'll do this one straight away" and then take 3 days and a brief trip to accident and emergency.

@[email protected] Means skipping being raptured with the type of people who believe in the rapture. Maybe it's a better sales pitch than I thought?

@[email protected] "tickets to the rapture are running out fast!"
