PSA: while you may think TempleOS is a haha funny meme thing and Terry Davis a misunderstood genius, you probably have not had to deal with him at his worst, before his story was really known.

I did. I was genuinely scared for my safety with the wild, unhinged shit he would spam my email inbox with. We didn't know back then who he really was or what conditions he had - all I knew was the violent, aggressive, threatening shit he would send my way in bursts (since I ran @osnews and thus was supposed to cover his work). This was early in my OSNews career too, so I was much younger - early 20s.

Yes, we know more now, and yes, I do truly feel sad he didn't get the help he needed. Still, excuse me if I don't find the TempleOS funny memes to be particularly funny.

In the year 2000 I was in a record store in Ireland and bought a mysterious sampler CD labelled "Liss Ard" for $2 out of the budget tray; it turned out unexceptional except for this *incredible*, gentle instrumental folk song on track 1. The Frames later hit it big-ish with the film "Once", but this song seems to have never been republished (or publicly commented on); I *think* it's a reworking of an Irish traditional?

I'm digging into "Move Slowly and Build Bridges" by @rwg - a history and analysis of the Fediverse. The section about codes of conduct is *really* good, (selfishly, it also helps me feel a bit vindicated for my criticism of a tech conference whose CoC included "technology choices" as a protected class alongside "sexual orientation", "ethnicity", and so on!)

Anyway. Read the book. It's good and interesting.

i live next to the teamviewer r&d offices. and i've always wondered because the architecture of that building is weird, it's somewhat office-building, but also not really, and it's in the middle of the inner city. and i knew it used to be a brothel at some point, but i thought these things were disconnected, because the building isn't that old. but no. the building was purpose-built as "europe's biggest temple of eros" (quote from the ~2003 website) in the early 2000s. the open-plan offices? those were the dancefloors. the giant window fronts in the upper stories, through which you can see awkward nerds in ill-fitting business suits? yeah those are for window girls

From a 1992 performance at the Knitting Factory, here's a gankadank with Doughty in full beat poet mode and elements that were later reused/echoed years later in "Soft Serve".
