@[email protected] @[email protected] Honest, but not true? Covers a surprisingly wide range of well meaning communication, especially when you start taking unconscious bias into account.
This is something that has bothered me for a long time. How did we end up in a timeline where we're all continually agreeing to contracts that are allowed to change their own terms and conditions, even while everybody agrees huge swathes of them are unenforceable on either party? We've achieved all of the paperwork with none of the benefits.

I love studies of evaluation and attribution biases because it's such a fascinating set of mechanisms and working out the contexts on which they arise is a really fun thing in social science, even though the outcomes and consequences are obviously quite serious
@[email protected] @[email protected] The weirdest part of the whole thing is that based on your longer description the headline was really an uncommonly clear and accurate description of the study. And yes, interesting study idea even if a somewhat unsurprising and depressing result.

Like #strawberries but don't like/can't eat cream? One Italian alternative is to roughly chop them (halves or quarters is fine unless you have huge strawberries) and marinate them for at least an hour in lemon juice and sugar (about 10 grams sugar + the juice of one lemon per 500g/1lb of strawberries).
They'll keep in the fridge overnight, and you can even box them up to take to places where you don't have access to a fridge - you will need a spoon to eat them with though.

@hypostase I have had a couple of 'wait, what?!' moments, before I realised I was misreading the context 🤣
@[email protected] @[email protected] I vaguely follow the competitive Street Fighter scene to add an extra one to the list. It feels like it must be possible to write ambiguous sentences with several of them, with bonus points for the more you fit in while still being plausibly coherent.
Why? Because whatever takes the place of management structure is almost always worse and comes with zero accountability nor paths for advocacy regarding accessing opportunities.. It overwhelmingly benefits white men to the exclusion of everyone else
@[email protected] It's always the simple sounding ideas that sound appealing. Remove management, meritocracy, unlimited annual leave... it's almost like life is a little more complicated than most of us really want to engage with.
Especially because it's always easier to assume things are simple if the problems aren't happening to you.
Of course, it's even more frustrating when we then avoid the simple things that do actually have an evidential basis. Working less than ~35 hours a week is long term more productive? Giving homeless people homes is a (comparatively) cheap and effective way of dealing of dealing with homelessness? Madness! The real world can't possible work like that!
Getting slightly hotter here, so time for my not too bad, not too slow #coldbrew #coffee.
Put coffee in aeropress over your mug (filter down). Tip in cold water, about enough to actually fill your mug. Stir really well (coffee grindings do not like mixing into the cold water). Put press on and set a timer for ~15 mins; some coffee will drip through but that's fine, in fact that's how you normally make cold brew. When the timer goes or you get impatient, skip the rest of the several hours cold brew normally takes and press the coffee. Done.

Partly pre-nuke, chop roughly and spread at the bottom of the pan before tipping frittata mix on top (plain omelette mix, basically: 2 eggs, ~1tbs milk per person plus salt and pepper to taste). Total cooking time less than twenty, and it's very tasty.
maybe this is like a rule or something. perhaps if I cut my hair with a rock it'll come out looking like I just stepped out of the salon.

@[email protected] I found out what happened with the main search page - I had updated to a newer version of Meili than Bonfire currently supports, so nothing immediate to fix there. Sorry about that! In fact - for me at least down grading Meili seems to have also fixed the user tag lookup?
Anyway in conclusion computers are pretty great when people remember they're about people and when they're both sometimes difficult thanks for coming to my ted talk.

@[email protected] @[email protected] Please, please. As a couple of years ago I wrote an agentic framework (before the surrounding landscape got rather better defined) I can tell you that you're missing the true depth and complexity here.
It's a loop that runs so slowly and unreliably you need to persist steps to have a hope of it running successfully, and which needs subloops to repeatedly tell it to try again when it attempts to use other software until it gives valid input. Then you rewrite the stack trace so that only the correct trigger is stored in the hope you don't run out of effective memory before actually doing whatever it is you're trying to do. It's so much more than a loop!
@[email protected] @[email protected] Turns out that I could now right some pretty stunning work flow software for managing processes that happen at 'real world' rather than digital speeds, though. Getting computers to run reliably and without bankrupting you at the speed of "Bob from finance answers an email" is actually quite an interesting puzzle.
